The Kirchheim tunnel (also Kirchheim tunnel ) is a 3819.5 m long railway tunnel on the high-speed line Hanover – Würzburg . It is located east of the Hessian municipality of Kirchheim and therefore bears his name.

The tunnel runs in a north-south direction, on the eastern edge of Kirchheim. The Wälsebachtal bridge connects to the north and the Aula valley bridge to the south .

The gradient drops continuously to the south in the tunnel.

The federal motorway 4 crosses the northern section of the tube in an east-west direction.

As one of the few tunnels on the new line, the structure has an emergency exit .

planning

The structure was planned at the beginning of 1984 with a length of 3790 m. The costs were calculated at 108.4 million DM.

In the planning and construction phase, the structure was part of planning section 15 in the middle section of the new line.

construction

Construction began in February 1984. The tunnel was on 3 October 1984. struck . At that time, twelve drives were running in the 111 km long central section of the new line. The planned length of the tunnel at that time was 3790 m. According to his godmother , the tube was also called Tunnel Maria during the construction phase .

The breakthrough followed in April 1986. The realized length was 3819.5 m.
