Yew tree on the Neuländer dike

The yew tree on the Neuländer dike is Hamburg's oldest tree . Their age is often given as 800–1000 years, but the Hamburg Environmental Atlas only mentions more cautiously “over 200 years”. The yew tree has been designated as a natural monument since November 3, 1936 .

The yew tree is almost three meters in circumference and is hollow on the inside. So that it doesn't fall over, it is supported and held together with metal rings. It is located on private property at Neuländer Elbdeich 198 and can be viewed from the street.
