Oak from Barmstedt
The oak of Barmstedt , also popularly known as the “millennial oak”, is a natural monument in Barmstedt , in the Pinneberg district .
They are located near Landesstraße 75 at the entrance to the parking lot at the restaurant “Zum Bootssteg” and the playground at Rantzauer See .
The pedunculate oak ( Quercus robur ) has been listed as a natural monument by the Lower Nature Conservation Authority of the Pinneberg district with the number 01/03 since December 19, 1997. The age of the oak is given as around 600–650 years. Regular tree care means that the oak is in very good condition with only a small amount of dead wood in the crown. The trunk is partially hollowed out and protected from further damage by a wire mesh. The tree has a relatively small crown with a diameter of up to 17 meters (branches cut by tree care). The trunk has a circumference of about 6.55 meters at the point of its smallest diameter. Measured at a height of one meter, the trunk circumference is 6.75 meters (2011).
It is one of the distinctive and old tree specimens in southern Schleswig-Holstein and the oldest natural monument in the Pinneberg district. It is only surpassed by the Uetersen copper beech (crown diameter 27.30 m (2008)) and the largest and most imposing tree, the " cooking oak " in the Kummerfeld enclosure.
