The origin was the establishment of the Goodearth Company in 1948 , which dealt with the import of tractors to India. Through the cooperation with the German company Gebr. Eicher , a joint venture was established in 1959 under the name Eicher Tractor Corporation of India Private Ltd. founded to be the first in the country to manufacture tractors locally. Success was inevitable and the company grew. In 1982 Mitsubishi started a technical collaboration to manufacture light trucks and buses in India. In 1990 the Indian company Enfield , a well-known manufacturer of motorized two-wheelers, was taken over. A year later, the local gear manufacturer Ramon and Demm was taken over. In 2005, the tractor and engine business was transferred to the Indian company TAFE Motors and Tractors Ltd. sold. In 2008, a commercial vehicle alliance was sealed with the Swedish manufacturer Volvo, which resulted in the establishment of the 50:50 joint venture VE Commercial Vehicles Limited . Volvo brought in its Indian business and an additional 200 million euros, Eicher brought in its entire truck and bus production.

Eicher Germany
The connection to the German company Gebr. Eicher only exists in the name. The German shares in the joint venture were already taken over by the Indian partner in the 1960s. In the 1980s, when the German company ran into increasing financial difficulties, Eicher India temporarily took over the majority of the German company. But even this step could not prevent the decline of the German company. The name “Eicher” lives on in India today as a respected brand and flourishing company.
