The Federal Coordination Commission for Occupational Safety (EKAS) is a permanent extra-parliamentary commission of the federal government in the field of occupational health and safety . Its activities are based on the Swiss Accident Insurance Act (UVG) of 1984.

It is the central office for the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases in Switzerland . Your rights and obligations are defined in the Accident Insurance Act and the Ordinance on Accident Prevention (VUV). It issues its own guidelines , advocates the uniform application of safety regulations in companies and the coordinated distribution of financial resources. It also ensures efficient, partnership-based cooperation between the implementing bodies, d. H. the Intercantonal Association for Employee Protection (IVA), the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), the Swiss Accident Insurance Fund (Suva) and the specialist organizations. The EKAS performs important information, training and further education tasks and carries out nationwide or regional programs to promote occupational safety. The resolutions are binding on the insurer and the executive bodies.

Other partners of the EKAS are the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH), the Swiss Insurance Association (SIA) and the branch association of Swiss health insurers santésuisse.

The commission is composed of representatives from the insurers, the executive bodies, delegates from employers and employees and a representative from the Federal Office of Public Health. Suva is the chairman. The office is located in Lucerne.
