Eien

Eien ( Japanese 永 延 ) is a Japanese era ( Nengō ) from May 987 to September 989 according to the Gregorian calendar . The previous era name is Kanna , the following era is Eiso . The era falls during the reign of the Emperor ( Tennō ) Ichijō .

The first day of the Eien era corresponds to May 5, 987, the last day was September 9, 989. The Eien era lasted three years or 859 days.

  • 988 The rural population of Owari Province brings the despotism and mismanagement of Fujiwara no Motonaga to the Imperial Court (referred to as the "Owari Complaint" ( 尾 張国 解 文 Owari no kuni no gebumi )); Fujiwara no Motonaga is then discontinued in the 1st year of the subsequent Eiso era
  • 989 The Kamogawa overflows its banks
