Eiichi Yamamoto ( Japanese 山 本 暎 一 , Yamamoto Eiichi ; born November 22, 1940 ) is a Japanese director and screenwriter who mainly worked for anime . Among other things, he has worked for the popular anime series Astro Boy by Osamu Tezuka and realized the erotic cartoon series Animerama for Tezuka's production company Mushi Production. His film Belladonna of Sadness was shown at the 1973 Berlinale .

In 1958, after graduating from high school, Yamamoto began working for the production company Otogi Pro . He stayed with the company for two years - for him personally it represented the best entry into the industry, instead of the Tōei , who was marked by labor disputes , the experimental Chiyogami Eiga-sha or advertising film producer . In 1961 he moved to the Mushi Production studio founded by Osamu Tezuka , where, like many others, he was paid significantly better than his competitors. Here he worked as director, author and assistant to Tezuka and was involved in introducing and developing new cost-saving production methods that made cartoons possible in the first place.
