Eilbertus of Cologne
Eilbertus von Köln was a monk , goldsmith and enamel painter (enamelur). Little is known about his life and origin. The name is mentioned as an artist's signature on the base of a support altar belonging to the Welfenschatz . There it says "EILBERTVS COLONIENSIS ME FECIT" ( this work was made by Eilbertus from Cologne ). The life and creative time of the artist monk Eilbertus is assumed to be between 1120 and 1160. It is not certain whether other porters from other places (St. Vitus Mönchengladbach, St. Servatius Siegburg - Mauritius Altar) also come from him.
