Eileen Sedgwick (born October 17, 1898 in Galveston , Texas , † March 15, 1991 in Marina del Rey , California ) was an American actress of the silent film era . In her 16 year career she has appeared in more than 120 films. In her later career, Sedgwick was also known under the pseudonym Gretl Yoltz .

Life

Eileen Sedgwick was the daughter of stage actors Edward Sedgwick senior and Josephine Walker. Her brother, six years older than that, was the actor, director and film producer Edward Sedgwick , and her sister, one year younger than her, was the actress Josie Sedgwick .

Sedgwick began her career in 1914 and has since appeared in a large number of productions annually. From 1920 she mainly shot so-called serials . These were multi-part series that mostly belonged to the Western genre. In 1928 Sedgwick had a small supporting role in Blue Boys - Blonde Girls , but was named in the credits under the pseudonym Gretl Yoltz , which she used in several films in the late 1920s. In 1930 Eileen Sedgwick ended her career as an actress after 16 years and over 120 film appearances. Her last film, The Jade Box, was a mixture of silent and sound films .

In 1929 Eileen Sedgwick married Edward Hutson, who worked for 20th Century Fox , with whom they had a son. The marriage lasted until Hutson's death in 1950. Sedgwick died on March 15, 1991 at the age of 92 in Marina del Rey, California. Her final resting place is in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City , not far from her sister Josie, who died in 1973.
