Dugout canoe from Poole Harbor

The more than 2200 year old Iron Age dugout canoe from Poole Harbor in Dorset in England is made from an oak . The boat was found broken in two parts during dredging operations on Green Island south of Poole Harbor in 1964 . The dugout canoe , which could accommodate 18 people, was about 10 meters long and 1.52 meters wide and is the largest found in southern England.

Due to its poor sea behavior (shallow draft ), it seems to have been specially built for use in the inland Poole Harbor . The National Trust recreated the boat.
