Vaalermoor dugout canoe

Spread dugout canoe by Valermoor

The dugout canoe from Valermoor , found in Valermoor in the Steinburg district in Schleswig-Holstein , exhibited in the German Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven, has an impressive length of 12.3 m, a width of 1.3 m and a depth of 0.57 m. The spread dugout canoe is reinforced by eleven inserted frames, which, like the carving out of a keel at both ends of the ship's bottom, indicates a developed shipbuilding that immediately preceded plank shipbuilding (according to Ole Crumlin-Pedersen 1935–2011). Eleven semicircular incisions on both sides in the upper rim were used to accommodate seats (not belts ).
