from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The media installationA Moment of Time ” - also known as “ The Eyes ” - was created by Hofstetter Kurt . It was located between 1994 and March 2009 in the main hall of the Vienna Südbahnhof .

description

The installation can be seen in the center of the picture

The media installation “ A Moment of Time ” consists of two steel hemispheres shifted against each other, each with a screen so that they are reminiscent of eyeballs . The format-filling video recordings of a female and a male eye can be seen on these screens . In this video recording, the date and time are also displayed in the area of the pupils. This representation is acoustically accompanied by the ticking of a Russian alarm clock.

In Vienna's Südbahnhof, these two structures hung opposite each other so that the moving walks ran between the main hall and the hall of the southern railway line .

meaning

For Hofstetter Kurt, the pupils of the eyes symbolize the black holes of time. Artistically, the media installation “ A Moment of Time ” is counted among the Austrian pioneering achievements in permanent computer art in public space.

Installation site

Because of the demolition of the Vienna Südbahnhof, the two “ eyes ” were removed from the main hall of the station in March 2009 and handed over to Peter Weibel from the Center for Art and Media Technology (ZKM) in Karlsruhe .

According to the Austrian Federal Railways , the media installation “ A moment in time ” is to be set up again in the new central station , while the Center for Art and Media Technology is hoping to remain in Karlsruhe.
