Once you say goodbye

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Once you say good-bye , the referee of a slow waltz song begins that Willy Schmidt-Gentner composed for the silent love melodrama “ The wonderful lie of Nina Petrovna ” by director Hanns Schwarz . Fritz Rotter wrote the words . The film, for which Schmidt-Gentner also wrote the illustrative music, premiered on April 15, 1929 in Berlin's Ufa-Palast am Zoo .

The song was published by Bosworth & Co. in Leipzig in 1929.

Ej [d. i. Ernst Jäger] discussed this - his rather pessimistic content as well as the Russian milieu of the film accordingly - in melancholy minor keys held piece of music in the film courier No 124 of 25 May 1929th.

The wistful film song was also a success outside of the cinema and was sung on gramophone record by well-known interpreters of the time, including Austin Egen , Richard Tauber and Franz Völker . It was played by showmen on festival meadows and sung by post-war stars like Peter Alexander . It has recently been cited in the literature.

song lyrics

  • Preface:

When two hearts get along sometimes

and pass with happiness

yes that is beautiful.

One thing in every love only bothers me

and that is the oath of loyalty.

Oaths destroy love.

Nobody secretly believes in them.

So never swear to me: you will stay with me.

I don't ask

because I tell you:

  • Refrain:

Once you say “goodbye”,

If you still love each other like that.

Once you say “goodbye”,

because there is no fidelity.

Do not swear to me: you will be mine forever.

No love can be forever.

Once you say “goodbye”,

If you still love each other like that.

Way: Willy Schmidt-Gentner. Words: Fritz Rotter.
