The one-room house c / o in Mannheim was founded in 2007 by the artists Myriam Holme and Philipp Morlock as a place to deal with young art.

The first exhibition of contemporary art took place from July 8th to August 27th, 2010. Temporary exhibitions with works of art directly from artists 'studios or from collectors' apartments were shown in the white cube of the one-room house - which itself is a (walk-in) work of art. According to its builder, Philipp Morlock, the one-room house was intended as a “shelter”, which should protect art from the public, but at the same time enable art to be viewed.

After it was dismantled in Mannheim, the one-room house moved to other cities. The naming was adapted accordingly. The "one-room house c / o Mannheim" subsequently became the "one-room house c / o Stuttgart" and the "one-room house c / o Tirana".

Since November 2011, the new, over 9 m wide and 6.65 m high one-room house c / o Mannheim has been on the old exhibition grounds in Mannheim. The artists exhibited so far include Helmut Dorner , Gregor Hildebrandt , Jeff Koons , Gereon Krebber , Daniel Roth and Johannes Wald .
