Classification of German military aircraft in the First World War
The Air Force Inspectorate (IdFlieg), which is responsible for Army Aviation, divided the types of aircraft used by the Air Force into defined groups.
Classification
During the First World War , the following were produced for the air force:

According to this classification, the serial numbers of the aircraft were also assigned: Manufacturer (abbreviation), possibly license manufacturer, intended use, series, serial number, year of construction, so designated e.g. B. Fok. (Alb.) D.VII 5147/18 a Fokker D.VII , built by Albatros, with the serial number 5147 from 1918. The designation E was abolished in 1918 and single-engine fighters were all given the designation D (see e.g. Fokker D.VIII ). The year of construction related to the year of the order. B. the Linke-Hofmann R.II , which was only completed shortly before or at the end of the war, bore the designation R.55 / 17 and R.58 / 17.
