The railway bridge over the Aller in Verden (Aller) is a double-track steel bridge built in 2016 that spans the Aller and the adjacent floodplain south of the Verden train station .
Previous buildings
A single-track wooden bridge was opened in 1847 for the Hanover – Bremen line. The construction of a brick bridge with 23 arches of 14 m each began in 1860. This was in operation for a long time until on April 13, 1945, German troops blew up the vaults over the Aller to stop the advancing British troops.
The destroyed arches over the Aller were replaced by steel girders; thus the bridge was put back into operation on December 21, 1950, the remaining work continued until 1951. It then had a main span of 32.70 m, a width of 9.20 m and a total length of 393.00 m.
New building in 2016
Investigations of the old bridge in 2001 showed that renovation did not make sense; cracks and other technically difficult to repair damage were discovered. The planning of the new building was carried out by the engineering office schlaich bergermann partner , the execution by the construction company Max Bögl . The new structure lies on a new railway line that has been shifted 13.8 m to the east and is designed as a trough bridge with eight openings and a maximum span of 80 m above the Aller. The construction height of the steel longitudinal beams varies between 7.7 m above the river pillars and 3.4 m in the foreland area. The construction lasted from 2013 to 2016. In addition to the actual Aller bridge, a 100 m long bridge over the Wätern was built 800 m further south and a new embankment was built east of the previous one over a length of 2 km. The steel girders, arches and pillars of the old bridge were then removed, the railway embankments were preserved. The superstructure of the new bridge allows speeds of 160 km / h, the generous curve radii of the connecting routes would in principle also allow higher speeds.
