Architecture and history

The original historic railway bridge has not been preserved and was replaced by a modern new building at the beginning of the 21st century. However, there were four obelisks made of sandstone on the sides that were integrated into the new bridge. The obelisks, richly decorated in the neo-baroque style, were built around 1900 in connection with the construction of a staircase leading to the Magdeburg-Neustadt train station, which is no longer in existence .

The western obelisks show the coat of arms of the formerly independent Magdeburg Neustadt, the eastern ones the coat of arms of the city of Magdeburg.

In the local register of monuments , the bridge is listed as a monument under registration number 094 82760 .
