Ajaraka railway accident

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ajaraka railway accident , a derailment , was caused by the attack on a railway line southwest of New Delhi on November 23, 1977. 20 people died.

Starting position

A class YDM-4 locomotive as it was involved in the accident

Night train No. 2 was en route from Ahmedabad to New Delhi. It was pulled by the YDM-4 6402 locomotive and some of its cars were older and still had wooden superstructures.

The route Bandikui - Rewari was meter gauge .

the accident

Before the train passed what would later be the scene of the accident, an 11.9 m long section of track was removed from the line between the Ajaraka and Bawal stations . The screws were loosened and the track section pushed out. When train number 2 passed the place, the locomotive and 10 cars derailed. The derailed wagons with wooden superstructures were smashed in the accident .

consequences

20 people died and another 21 were injured. The perpetrator or perpetrators could never be identified. Despite the present accident report, due to the generally desolate situation of Indian Railways , whose accidents are often attributed to external causes by politicians, doubts arose in retrospect as to whether it was actually an attack or whether it was material fatigue that led to the accident.
