Rewari is a city ( Municipal Council ) with approx. 160,000 inhabitants in the south of the Indian state of Haryana ; it is the center of the Ahirwal region.
Location and climate
Rewari is located a good 90 km southwest of the Indian capital Delhi at an altitude of 250 m . The city is the administrative seat of the district of the same name . The climate in Rewari is known as the local steppe climate . Around 90% of all precipitation falls in the monsoon season (July to mid-September). The average annual precipitation is 542 mm. The mean annual temperature is 25.2 ° C.

The enormous population growth in the last few decades is mainly due to the continued immigration of smallholders and day laborers from the surrounding villages. A good 97% of the population are Hindus and just under 1% are Muslims ; the rest is attributable to other religious communities ( Jains , Sikhs , Christians , Buddhists ). They speak Hindi and Haryanvi .
economy
The area around Rewari is largely structured on a small scale. The city itself was known for its copper and brass smiths ; this branch of the economy is now largely mechanized. Rewari is now an important railway junction, and several highways cross here.
history
The history of the city probably goes back to the 5th century BC. BC back; some even claim that Gautama Buddha stopped by in the last year of his life. In the Mughal Empire , Rewari played a minor role; in the 18th century the city fell temporarily to the Marathas and in the 19th century to the British .
Attractions
Despite its long history, Rewari has hardly any culturally or historically significant buildings; even the four city gates date from colonial times.
Personalities
Hemu , the military leader and first minister of the last Surid ruler Adil Shah Suri , spent his early youth in Rewari.
