Rewari is a district in the Indian state of Haryana .

The area is 1594 km². The administrative seat is the city of the same name, Rewari . The district belongs to the wider metropolitan area of Delhi .

history

Fighting took place in the district during the 1962 Indo-China Border War .

The population was 900,332 (2011). The population growth rate in the period from 2001 to 2011 was 17.64%. Rewari has a gender ratio of 898 women per 1000 men and thus a common surplus of men for India. The district had a literacy rate of 80.99% in 2011 , an increase of almost 6 percentage points compared to 2001. The literacy rate is thus above the national average. Almost 98.8% of the population are Hindus , approx. 0.6% are Muslims , approx. 0.2% each are Sikhs and Jainas , approx. 0.1% are Christians and approx. 0.1% indicated no religious affiliation or belonged to other religions. Children under 6 years of age are 12.7% of the population. The Haryanvi language, a dialect of Hindi, is common in the district .

Almost 25.9% of the population live in cities. The largest city is Rewari with 143,021 inhabitants.

economy

The proximity to Delhi and the presence of minerals in the district have allowed Rewari to have a mixed economy. Since the district was founded in 1989, the number of agricultural workers has decreased from 54.7% to 33.8% in 2011. The labor force was absorbed in the growing tertiary and secondary sectors.
