Kurukshetra is a district in the Indian state of Haryana .
The area is 1530 km². The administrative seat is the city of the same name Kurukshetra . The district belongs to the wider metropolitan area of Delhi .

The district was established on 1973 and emerged from parts of Karnal .

The population was 964,655 (2011). The population growth rate in the period from 2001 to 2011 was 16.86%. Kurukshetra has a gender ratio of 888 women per 1000 men and thus a common surplus of men for India. Almost 83.5% of the population are Hindus , approx. 14.6% are Sikhs , approx. 1.7% are Muslims , approx. 0.2% are Christians and approx. 0.1% said they did not belong to any religion or belonged to another Religions. Children under 6 years of age are 12.1% of the population. The Haryanvi language, a dialect of Hindi, is common in the district .
Almost 29.0% of the population live in cities. The largest city is Thanesar with 155,152 inhabitants.
