Kaithal is a district in the Indian state of Haryana .

The area is 2317 km². The administrative seat is the city of the same name Kaithal .

The population was 1,074,304 (2011). The population growth rate in the period from 2001 to 2011 was 13.55%. Kaithal has a gender ratio of 881 women per 1000 men and thus a common surplus of men for India. The district had a literacy rate of 69.15% in 2011 , an increase of almost 10 percentage points compared to 2001. This means that literacy is slightly below the national average. Almost 90.7% of the population are Hindus , approx. 8.2% are Sikhs , approx. 0.8% are Muslims , approx. 0.2% are Christians and approx. 0.2% did not belong to any religion or belonged to another Religions. 13% of the population are children under 6 years of age. The Haryanvi language, a dialect of Hindi, is common in the district .
