Kaithal is a city ( Municipal Council ) in the northwestern Indian state of Haryana .
The city is located in the Ganges plain at an altitude of 238 m 150 km north-northwest of the federal capital New Delhi . Kaithal is the administrative seat of the district of the same name . The city had 144,915 inhabitants at the 2011 census. In Kaithal, 96% of the population is Hindu .
The national highway NH 65 connects Kaithal with Hisar, 100 km south-west, and Ambala, 75 km north-northeast . Other highways connect Kaithal with the larger cities in the area. Kaithal is on the Narwana - Thanesar railway line .
