Palwal is a district in the Indian state of Haryana .

The area is 1834 km². The administrative seat is the city of the same name Palwal . The district belongs to the wider metropolitan area of Delhi .

The district was established on August 15, 2008 and originated from parts of Faridabad .

The population was 1,042,708 (2011). The population growth rate in the period from 2001 to 2011 was 25.76% and was therefore very high. Palwal has a gender ratio of 880 women per 1000 men and thus a common surplus of men for India. The district had a literacy rate of 69.32% in 2011 , an increase of almost 10 percentage points compared to 2001. The literacy rate is thus above the national average. Almost 79.3% of the population are Hindus , approx. 20.0% are Muslims , approx. 0.4% are Sikhs , approx. 0.1% each are Jainas and Christians and approx. 0.2% indicated no religious affiliation or belonged to other religions. 17% of the population are children under 6 years of age. The Haryanvi language, a dialect of Hindi, is common in the district .

Almost 22.7% of the population live in cities. The largest city is Palwal with 128,730 inhabitants.
