The Briesen railway accident on November 1, 1918 was a rear-end collision of a military holiday train east of the Briesen station on freight wagons that had stopped on the Frankfurt (Oder) –Berlin railway line after the train had separated. At least 19 people died.

Starting position

The freight train 7708 was at night after Berlin go. He did not have a continuous brake line . In the last car of the freight train, a brakeman drove in the brakeman's house as the final conductor , who was also supposed to secure the train to the rear. The freight train was followed by the 4026 military holiday train to Berlin. This should overtake the freight train in Briesen station.

the accident

The freight train had to stop shortly before 4:00 a.m. at the entrance signal of the Briesen station because the entrance was not yet cleared. When this was released, the train started. A clutch came loose and the rear of the train stopped in front of the signal . The final conductor of the freight train slept in the last car of the abandoned part of the train. The course attendants in Briesen observed to duty not at the entrance of the freight train if its last car and the train rear end showed. So he didn't notice that the freight train was missing wagons. Rather, he placed equal to the soft for the next on leave. A short time later, the holiday train hit the part of the freight train that had stopped on the route .
