Jajpur Road Railway Accident

In the railway accident at Jajpur Road on July 14, 1969 at 9:36 p.m., a freight train ran into a passenger train at Jajpur Keonjhar Road station in Jajpur Road in the Indian state of Orissa . 85 people died.

Starting position

. In the passenger train No. 398 from Asansol to Puri traveled a large number of Hindu - pilgrims to a celebration in the Jagannath Temple of Puri, one of the most important Vishnu temples in India. A million believers were expected at the festival.

The freight train No. D 513 pulled by a diesel locomotive ran on the same track behind the passenger train.

The freight train hit the stationary passenger train. An assassination attempt was therefore officially assumed to be the cause of the accident .
