The Rudnik railway accident was a catastrophic explosion that occurred on July 17, 1917 in the railway station of Rudnik am San , then Austria , now Poland . 59 people died.

Starting position

In the station of Rudnik was on a siding one with ammunition loaded train of the Austro-Hungarian military facilities. Austria-Hungary was at war with neighboring Russia .

the accident

Around 4 p.m. the train exploded and its debris caught fire. Since everyone within a 150-meter radius, including the military escort and railway personnel, was killed immediately, the cause of the explosion could not be determined.

consequences

59 people died. This included not only the station master , who in his office at the reception building was staying and also parked the other on-duty railway workers, but also railway workers that used in an as accommodation in the station railway cars had stopped and that the ammunition accompanying military. Seven carriages of the train burned out completely, the 11 others were badly damaged.
