Waterval Boven railway accident

In the railway accident at Waterval Boven on the Pretoria – Maputo railway on November 15, 1949, a passenger train traveling from South Africa to Mozambique derailed on a bridge near Waterval Boven , Transvaal . The train was occupied by about 500 travelers . Seven passenger cars of the train fell 20 meters from a bridge in the River Elands , six other cars overturned. 55 people died and more than 100 were injured.
