Eisenhammer Erlau

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Eisenhammer Erlau was a hammer mill in the Erlau district of the city of Schleusingen in the Free State of Thuringia .

history

On August 19, 1711, all of the cutting mills in Erlau applied to Duke Moritz Wilhelm von Sachsen-Zeitz to convert the previous cutting mill into an iron hammer and blue oven , as this could no longer be started properly due to a lack of wood. After all concerns had been resolved, the concession was granted on October 3, 1712 and the construction of a new iron hammer began. The hammer trades became Erlau from the Schneidemühl.

Since the owners of the iron hammer lived away from home and had little experience of how to operate a hammer mill with a blast furnace, there were serious problems as early as 1715 that could only be remedied by an interest decree by the duke. Nevertheless, the great successes hoped for did not materialize.

The required iron stone was delivered by carters in 1737 partly from Saalfeld and partly from Schmalkalden , but not the low-value ones from Henneberg-Schleusingen .

Bar iron and sheet metal were manufactured. The rifle factory in Suhl was also supplied.
