The Eisenwerk Brühl is a foundry in the Rhine Brühl , as automotive oriented.

history

The plant was founded in 1927 by Georg Sandmann (1876–1952). Today it forms the ERW group together with the ironworks Hasenclever & Sohn, founded in 1773 . In 2009 the factory in Brühl with 1,400 employees achieved sales of 180 million euros, in 2010 of 267 million euros. The products include various types of engine blocks and a type of cylinder head made of cast iron , in which the plant describes itself as the market leader in Europe. The main products include engine blocks for Audi , Volkswagen , Ford , General Motors , Fiat and Opel .

With the development of an engine block made of cast iron ready for series production, which, thanks to its particularly thin wall thickness of only 3 mm, weighs about as much as a comparable block made of aluminum, but has smaller dimensions and greater strength, an innovation succeeded after difficult years that attracted worldwide attention . The engine was presented for the first time at the IAA in Frankfurt in September 2011.

The company is the winner of the environmental protection award of the city of Brühl.
