The Eisleber Wiesenmarkt in Lutherstadt Eisleben (Saxony-Anhalt) is an annual folk festival with an average of more than half a million visitors and more than 350 showmen.

The "Wiese" is organized by the Lutherstadt Eisleben's own markets and is officially the largest folk festival in Central Germany . It always takes place on the third weekend in September and lasts from Friday to Monday. On Friday, the festival will be officially opened at 3 p.m. in a street parade by the mayor of Eisleben. On Monday, the festival ends with a fireworks display, which takes place at 10 p.m., and ends at midnight.

The following weekend the “Little Meadow” takes place. Up until a few years ago there were around 70 showmen on the “Little Meadow”, but due to the increasing popularity, the number rose to 150 by 2012. Since 2003 there has been a balloon meeting in addition to the “Little Meadow” every Saturday and a balloon glow in the evening hours.

More recently, the “spring meadow” has also established itself, which, together with the “Reforma” craft fair, always takes place around May 1st. About 90 showmen and traders take part.

history

In the course of history, the Eisleber Wiesenmarkt has developed into the largest folk festival in Central Germany. This was mainly achieved through the renovation initiated after the fall of the Wall, in which not only the entire site was completely concreted, but the water and electricity supply was also modernized.

The "field" was documented for the first time in 1521 by Emperor Charles V mentioned. The annual tradition began as a cattle and ox market, and "bird shooting" had already become a cult in early times.

Due to the great entertainment value in the population, the market quickly grew beyond its own city limits and became popular outside of the region within the next few years.

Over time, the face of the market has gradually been restructured from a pure entertainment sector to an amusement park. This also meant the introduction of the first "rides" on the site when this became technically possible.
