Ejnar Krantz

Ejnar Krantz (born August 3, 1915 in Mears / Michigan ; † May 1, 2007 ) was an American composer , pianist , organist and music teacher .

The son of Swedish immigrants studied piano, music theory and composition at the Sherwood Music School in Chicago from 1933 . From 1936 to 1938 he traveled as a piano accompanist with the Russian violinist Alexander Kaminsky through the USA and Canada, after which he continued his education at the Sherwood Music School , which he completed in 1939 as a Bachelor. He then studied at Chicago Music College (Master's in 1943), took piano lessons with Rudolph Ganz and composition lessons with Max Wald for a year . This was followed by a dissertation at the Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt University (Dissertation: An Approach to Fingering in Piano Playing , 1954).

He also performed as a pianist with musicians from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra ; He financed his studies as an organist and choir director at various churches, with English and French lessons and private music lessons. He made his debut as a concert pianist in New York's Town Hall and has performed as a piano accompanist and soloist in the USA, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, France, Spain and Germany.

For a year he taught at the Polytechnic Institute in Ruston, Louisiana, after which he ran a private piano studio in San Antonio for three years. From 1957 to 1960 he was organist and musical director at the First Presbyterian Church in South Bend, Indiana. Here he led five choirs, gave a series of 27 organ concerts and performed several oratorios. He also taught at Manchester College , North Manchester, Indiana, and later at Gosher College , Indiana. A temporary job at Trinity Grace Methodist Church in South Bend, Indiana, resulted in a ten year stint as organist for that church. From 1970 to 1995 he was Professor of Piano and Music History at Indiana University South Bend .
