Ekbert vom Ambergau
Eckbert vom Ambergau , the one-eyed, (also Egbert, Ekbert) (* around 932, † April 994 ) was Count in Amberau and Derlingau , Vogt of the Diocese of Münster and Lord of the Alaburg.
He was the son of Billunger Count Wichmann I in Bardengau (the elder; 900-944) (and Frederuna von Westfalen or Bia von Engern ). On his mother's side he was a nephew of Queen Mathilde .
He was on the side of Liudolf . From inheritance disputes a hostility resulted to his uncle Hermann Billung , the successful rival of his father for the favor of Otto I. Therefore he took part in 953 with his brother Wichmann II. In the Liudolfingischen uprising. In 957 he was pardoned .
In 977 he fought with Heinrich the Quarrel against Otto II in pursuit of his claims . In 977/78 he was imprisoned by Bishop Folkmar of Utrecht . After Otto's death, he supported Heinrich's plans for the king in 984, holding the Emperor's daughter Adelheid hostage in his Ala castle near Goslar (possibly located on the Georgenberg instead of the Georgenberg Church or on the Steinberg). The castle was then stormed and destroyed.
