Elías Aguilar Romero (born February 18, 1943 in Torreón , Coahuila ), also known by the nickname Chuleta , is a retired Mexican football player in the position of a striker .
career
Aguilar received his football training at his hometown club Club Alborada . After the Club Campesino de Fútbol Cataluña was founded in his hometown at the end of 1959 in order to compete in the Segunda División , which was still second-rate at the time , Aguilar moved to this club from the 1960/61 season . Aguilar had to wait three years to make his debut in this league when the club had just been renamed Club de Fútbol Torreón .
"Chuleta" Aguilar played his first league game in a Clásico Lagunero against the city rivals Club de Fútbol Laguna, founded in 1953 . Although the game was lost 2-1, Aguilar had scored the only goal for Diablos Blancos , so he quickly became an indispensable part of his team. In the 1966/67 season he was the second best scorer in the Segunda División with 19 goals and attracted the interest of the first division club León , who signed him for the 1967/68 season .
However, Aguilar returned to CF Torreón after a year and rose to the first division with Diablos Blancos at the end of the 1968/69 season . In the following three seasons he scored 13 goals for his club in the top Mexican division before moving to CF Madero in 1972 and playing again in the second division . But even with the Orinegros , "Chuleta" immediately won the second division championship and rose again to the top division. When CF Madero relegated two years later, Aguilar moved to the neighboring club Deportivo Tampico , which also only played in the second division in the 1975/76 season.
