action

The series revolves around the everyday life of Chavo del Ocho (Spanish for the boy from the eighth ), a Mexican boy from a housing estate in Mexico City , and its residents. In the program, topics such as poverty and neglect of street children are mostly humorous. Characteristic of the program is the linguistic joke, which is based primarily on ambiguities, and the resulting confusion.

The eight originally stood for the slot for the series on channel 8 of Mexican television. After this changed, and to avoid confusion, the Chavo's apartment number was used as an explanation. However, apartment number eight is never shown in the series, instead the boy uses a barrel on the premises of the apartment block as his preferred place to stay.
