El Risitas (2015)

El Risitas , actually Juan Joya Borja (born April 5, 1956 in Seville , Andalusia , † April 28, 2021 there ), was a Spanish comedian and actor . One of his interviews became an international meme in a post-production in 2015 .

Life

Juan Joya was born in Seville and initially had simple jobs such as cook or porter for cement sacks. His first appearance on television was in 2000 in the El Vagamundo show produced and hosted by Jesús Quintero , which ran on Canal 2 Andalucía from 1999 to 2002. The show essentially consists of interviews with people with an interesting story, including Joya and his then business partner "El Peito". Joya stood out with his special laugh - hence the nickname "El Risitas", the giggling, the chuckling.

Joya then found jobs as a speaker and comedian who skillfully recited jokes and stories in television programs, at regional festivals and private parties. With the recurring presence in the national media ( B celebrities ), he also got a small role in the film Torrente 3: El protector from 2005. After he became internationally known in 2015 (see Internet phenomenon ), he also received small jobs outside of Spain, for example for a pizza advertisement in Finland.

Internet phenomenon

In 2007 he appeared on the show Ratones Coloraos , also produced and hosted by Jesús Quintero, in which he reported on his life as a cook and dishwasher. Embedded in this was an incident when he deposited paella pans in the nearby sea to make his work easier through the action of the salt water, only to find out the next morning that the tide had washed away the pans. Joya and the moderator kept laughing. The interview was uploaded to Youtube on June 25, 2007 and was viewed more than a million times by the time it became internationally known.

In 2014, the video was first used by the Muslim Brotherhood to parody Egyptian President al-Sisi . This was followed by more new dubbing by geeks who faked technology or games. The scheme follows the internet phenomenon of the bunker scene in Der Untergang , where the original German text of the Hitler figure was provided with completely different English texts, which, however, follow the rhythm of the scene. In March 2015, such a parody deals with the new MacBook , in which the English subtitles under the Spanish video pretend he was a former Apple engineer - in just one month this adaptation reached over 5 million viewers.

In the German-speaking area, edits were then made - with German subtitles - in which he is often referred to as Papá Verdad ("Father Truth").

Health and death

El Risitas suffered from diabetes mellitus and in September 2020 he had one of his legs amputated at the Hospital de la Caridad in Seville. Joya died on April 28, 2021 at the age of 65 in the Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocío in Seville.
