Elampus panzeri is a kind from the family of cuckoo wasps (Chrysididae). It belongs to the panzeri group, with at least 3 species, whose status as an independent taxa has not yet been fully clarified.
features
The wasps reach a body length of 4 to 8 millimeters. The end of the abdomen has a triangular cut, flattened bulge. This distinguishes the species from Elampus bidens , which has two thorns at the end of the abdomen.
Occurrence
The species occurs throughout the Palearctic . They colonize open habitats with sand and loess. The animals fly from late May to August. They can be found widespread in Central Europe.
Way of life
Elampus panzeri probably parasitizes mainly on digger wasps of the genus Mimesa , but also on Pemphredon , Lestica and Trypoxylon . The sting that is typical of golden wasps and has been converted into a laying apparatus is very flexible, which means that eggs can also be laid around the corner.
