Elataria ( Greek Ελαταριά ( f. Sg. )) Is a mountain village in Greece, about 15 km from the town of Paramythia. It belongs to the Paramythia parish of the Souli parish in the Epirus region . Elataria is located on a 1400  m high mountain range north of Paramythia. Today the village is only inhabited by two to five families during the summer, who let their cattle graze in the wild over the summer. Every year, on August 15, the region's famous festival of Panagia (mother of Jesus) takes place there. At this festival, up to 1000 people from the area come, traditionally mostly the day before, and spend the night in tents in the great outdoors. At the actual festival on August 15, the meat donated by farmers the day before is prepared and distributed free of charge to all guests. To this day, the place is only adventurous to reach by car. On the way to Elataria you will find the entrance to the new Egnatia motorway.

history

In 1860 the village was inhabited by up to 1500 people, who lived mainly from cattle breeding. After the Second World War, people gradually settled in lower-lying villages, but mainly in the town of Parapotamos , which at that time was still called Varfani, to farm on the Kalamas River .
