Flood of the Elbe
Like other rivers in Central Europe and around the world, the banks of the Elbe were repeatedly hit by floods . These flood events in particular are documented in historical times:
- The Elbe was less affected by the Magdalen flood of 1342 than the Main and Rhine , perhaps not as badly as the Danube and Weser . Damage occurred on the Upper and Upper Middle Elbe on July 21 and 22. In the case of flood damage to the Elbe bridge in Meißen, however, it is not certain whether it really occurred in summer or during a winter flood in the same year.
- The Elbe flood in July / August 1501 is discussed in more detail in the article about the floods in Central Europe 1501
- After the snowy winter of 1783/84 , there was a considerable flood of the Elbe in spring.
- The Elbe flood in 1845 became known as the "Saxon Flood".
- During the floods in Central Europe in 2002 , the Elbe was also badly affected.
- The Elbe flood occurred in 2006 only four years after that “flood of the century” .
- Another severe flooding, including on the Elbe, occurred when floods increased in Central Europe in 2013 .
