Eleanor Daley

Eleanor Joanne Daley (* 1955 in Parry Sound , Ontario , Canada ) is a Canadian composer.

Life

Eleanor Daley studied music at Queen's University in Kingston , Canada and graduated in organ and piano from the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto and Trinity College , England . Today she lives and composes in Toronto, where she worked as music director at the Fairlawn Heights United Church and accompanist of the Bach Children's Choir until 1982 .

Overall, she worked with the following choirs, for which she also composed: Elmer Iseler Singers , Amadeus Chor , Toronto Children's Chorus , Amabile Youth Singers , St. Mary's Children's Choir, Cantabile Singers of Kingston, Savridi Singers, Vancouver Men's Chorus Victoria Scholars . In the United States , Daley has worked on behalf of many groups and arts organizations, including Master Chorale of Tampa Bay, Texas Woman's University , Texas Choral Directors Association, American Choral Directors Association . She also worked at European festivals in Norway, Germany and England.

Works

  • Daley's works have been published by 11 Canadian, US, and UK-based publishers, including Oxford University Press.
  • In particular, she has composed many works especially for female choirs.
  • She mainly composed sacred music for choir, which was and is mainly performed in North America and Europe.
  • Many video examples of their works can be heard on YouTube, sung and played by different choir ensembles, often accompanied by the organ.
  • The Requiem , for mixed-voice choir and soloists, is one of her best-known compositions. It used texts from: The Voice of the Birds , Psalm 130 , funeral service 1662 , Anonymous (Russian blessing).
