The elephant rock ( Roccia dell'elefante in Italian ) is a rock about 5 meters high, formed by weathering, which looks like an elephant when viewed from a suitable angle . It is a tourist attraction in Sardinia and is located about 5 kilometers southeast of Castelsardo in the province of Sassari .

The bizarre rock was already a place of worship in the times of the Nuragher (around 1800–750 BC). The ancient Sardinians drove small niches in the rock, in which they buried their dead in cinder urns.
