The Elefantenstein is a rock formation in the Mühlviertel Nature Park in the municipality of Rechberg in the Perg district . It has been registered as a natural monument in the Upper Austrian Nature Conservation Book since 1999 .

description

The Elefantenstein is located in the village of Puchberg in the municipality of Rechberg, right next to the Puchberg goods road. The rock formation is a 25 meter × 15 meter large and up to 10 meter high wool sack weathered natural formation in the Weinsberg granite with penetrations of fine-grain granite.

This geological structure is characterized by several granite blocks lying next to and on top of each other, some of which are overgrown with pine , hazel , oak , cherry and birch . The weathering shape and the existing vertical fracturing of the rock give the appearance of the front view of an elephant's skull .
