Elegant Machinery is a Swedish synthpop band, which was founded in 1988 and its name was the 1989th Her music is characterized by old analog synthesizer sounds that are reminiscent of the 1980s.

Band history

In 1988 Richard Jomshof (née Johansson) and Leslie Bayne formed a band, a year later Robert Enforsen joined them as lead singer. In 1989 the first demos were recorded with the producer Jonas Warnebring, including the songs "Safety In Mind" and "Little Sacrifice". Inspired by the band Data's third album , they did not call themselves Pole Position , as originally planned , but Elegant Machinery .

In 1990 the first single "Safety in Mind" was published with a circulation of 500 copies and was sold out just seven days later. The first tour also started in 1991. In 1992, the first studio album “Degraded Faces” was recorded and released under the Swedish label Energy Rekords . The title "Process" was extracted from this as a single. The single made it to number 5 on the Spanish charts and became the greatest commercial success in the band's history. The album and single were then licensed to the Spanish record company Bol Records . Johan Malmgren has also been a permanent member of the band since 1992. In the summer of 1993, the second studio album "Shattered Grounds" was recorded. This was followed by a successful tour of Germany together with the band SPOCK .

In 1994 Leslie Bayne left the band. There were some concerts in Germany and Hungary and the single "Watching You" was released. In 1996 the third studio album "Yesterday Man" was released, with Anders Eliasson (a former member of the old synthpop band Page ) . Followed by a tour of Germany and Sweden in 1997, it would become the band's best-selling album. In 1998 the band toured again in Germany. Together with Eskil Simonsson ( Covenant ) the album "A Decade of Thoughts" was recorded, a kind of best-of album. The band also made a few appearances on Swedish television. In 1998 the band received the “Best Live Act 1997” award from SEMA (Swedish Alternative Music Awards).

In the same year they separated for personal reasons and due to problems with the record label.

reunion

In the following years, despite the official separation, there were some appearances worldwide. In 2005, Elegant Machinery made a comeback. The band recorded an album in 2006 and performed in Spain and at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig. This was followed by concerts in Mexico and interviews in magazines and on Mexican television. In Germany the band played two pieces from the new album, which were improved again and used as a demo. In 2007 Elegant Machinery signed a contract with the German label Out of Line . In 2008 the first single after the reunification, "Feel the Silence", was released. The second single on the album is called "Move" and was released in the summer.
