Electric current layer
A current sheet ( English sheet current ) is an electric current , so that is practically limited to a two-dimensional area is not an entire volume (such as a conductor ) penetrates.
The largest known electric current layer in the solar system is the heliospherical current layer , which extends - about 10,000 km thick - from the sun to the Kuiper Belt . In typical plasmas such as the solar corona , layers of electrical current can reach a ratio of extension to diameter of up to 100,000: 1. (For comparison: most book pages have a ratio of 2000: 1).
Electric current layers in astrophysical plasmas have complex physical properties and are studied in detail. A closed solution to the Vlasov equation also generates an electrical current layer known as the "Harris current layer".
Very thin layers of electrical current are used in high electron mobility transistors .
