Bernd Schilcher

Bernd Schilcher (born July 22, 1940 in Graz ; † May 29, 2015 ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and university professor . From 1976 to 1993 he was a member of the state parliament in Styria and from 1978 to 2003 professor for civil law at the University of Graz .

Life

Bernd Schilcher originally studied medicine , but later switched to law studies at the University of Graz . In 1964 he received his doctorate as Dr. iur. at Walter Wilburg , whose assistant he was. In 1975 he completed his habilitation in private law. In 1978 he was appointed full professor for civil law at the University of Graz, where he was director of the institute for civil law from 1996 to 2001 and vice dean of studies from 1999 to 2001. At Rutgers School of Law in Camden , New Jersey , he had a visiting professorship held. In 2003 he retired.

From 1976 to 1993 he was a member of the ÖVP in the Styrian state parliament, from 1985 to 1989 he also held the function of the Styrian ÖVP club chairman. From 1974 to 1991 he represented Styria on the ORF board of trustees .

From 1989 to 1996 he was the executive president of the state school board for Styria. In 2007, Minister of Education Claudia Schmied appointed him chairman of the expert commission that developed the concept of the new middle school and was active until 2009. In 2011 he was one of the promoters of the popular initiative initiated by Hannes Androsch . In the book Geisterstunde - Die Praxis der Unbildung , published in 2014, philosophy professor Konrad Paul Liessmann criticized Schilcher's role as an education expert .

Bernd Schilcher was married three times, his first marriage to Gerlinde Schilcher , who wrote the repeatedly reissued bestseller Ich bin ich (1980) about her marriage to a politician under the pseudonym Judith Jannberg .
