Electroneutrality principle

The principle of electroneutrality is a rule that describes the distribution of electrical charges in a molecule , complex or ion .

According to the principle of electroneutrality, the electric charge in a chemical compound is distributed in such a way that the effective charge of each atom remains as small as possible. The electroneutrality principle allows qualitative predictions about the stability of complexes. In stable complexes, each atom has an electrical charge in the range between +1 and −1.
