Electric wire rope hoist

An electric wire rope hoist is a hoist in which a steel rope is used as the suspension element . The lifting movement is generated by an electric motor . Electric wire rope hoists are used to raise and lower freely moving and guided loads that cannot tilt. It can be used either stationary or electronically movable as part of a trolley .

General structure of a rope hoist

While in the past the motor, gearbox and drum were mostly arranged coaxially with the inclusion of the cable drum to accommodate the gearbox, in recent years it has become common practice to arrange the motor on the outside. This design offers advantages in terms of cooling, maintenance and the possibility of using different motor types and sizes in a modular manner. In addition, it is particularly suitable for use in a trolley because it is more compact than the coaxial shape and thus enables smaller approach dimensions. The trolley can therefore move closer to the ends of the crane girder. This modern design - also called C-design because of its shape - is shown in the sketch on the right.

The cable essentially consists of the following components:

Lifting motor, gearbox , rope drum, hook block, rope and rope guide ring.

The length of the cable drum varies depending on the desired lifting height. It can be designed either with one or two grooves. With the two-groove design, there is no hook migration that normally occurs when the rope is unwound from the rope drum. The left picture shows a single-groove design. The wire rope is usually (with very few exceptions) only wound in one layer. The rope guide ring ensures that no slack rope and no overwinding of the rope can occur. This guarantees that the rope runs in and out properly and prevents dangerous situations from arising.
