Eleni "Elena" Panaritis ( Greek Ελένη "Έλενα" Παναρίτη Eleni Panariti , born September 30, 1968 in Athens ) is a Greek economist and politician .

Life

Eleni Panaritis received her Bachelor's degree in Economics from the American College of Greece in Athens in 1989 . In 1990 she obtained her Masters in International Economics in Bologna , in 1991 she received her Masters of Arts in International Economics and European Studies from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University , after which she went to Harvard University and completed an Executive Program in Global Financial Markets and Crisis at the John F. Kennedy School of Government . In 2003 she received her Masters in Business Administration from Insead . From 1991 she worked for the World Bank for eleven years . She has been teaching at INSEAD since 2001. She also teaches at the SAIS.

From 2009 to 2012 she was a member of the Greek Parliament as a representative of the social democratic party Panellinio Sosialistiko Kinima (PASOK). She was an advisor to Giorgos Papandreou . In 2015, at the suggestion of Yanis Varoufakis , she was to become a delegate to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), but she refused the office due to massive protests on the part of the left-wing alliance Syriza .
