The Eleonorenschule (Elo) is an educational institution in the southern Hessian city of Darmstadt . It was built as a high school for girls between 1909 and 1911 on the site of the former municipal gas works. The school was named after the last Grand Duchess of Hesse , Eleonore zu Solms-Hohensolms-Lich (1871-1937).
architecture
The three-part building, kept in traditionalist forms, was built according to plans by city building officer August Buxbaum . The roofs are emphasized by raised structures. The facades are structured like a cassette; the portals are decorated with sculptures by Heinrich Jobst .
Others
A country school home in Waldmichelbach is attached to the Eleonorenschule . An annual stay in the country school home is part of the educational work and the acquisition of skills. School partnerships and school exchanges exist with schools in Brazil, France, Italy, Peru, Spain, Hungary and the USA.
The Eleanor School runs a school garden with a research workshop. She also has a collection of ancient sculptures (casts).
