Eli Avivi

Eli Avivi (born April 27, 1930 in Persia ; died May 16, 2018 in Israel ) was a seaman , hippie and nude photographer . In 1971 he founded the Achsivland project .

Life

Eli Avivi had been a member of the Palmach since 1946 and helped smuggle Jewish emigrants from Europe to Palestine. From 1947 he worked as a fisherman. From 1952 he lived in the Achziv settlement . Here he proclaimed the microstate of Achzivland in 1971, where he lived with his wife Rina. It was definitely a tourist attraction, although the state was not recognized internationally. Avivi has been photographing his country's friends on the beach for decades. Over the years, the largest archive for nudes in Israel has been created with over a million pictures.

He died of pneumonia in 2018. He is buried in Kibbutz Gesher Haziv.

documentary

In 2009 the documentary film Achziv, a place to love, was made about the life story of Eli Achziv. The film was screened at the Haifa International Film Festival and the 2009 Toronto Jewish Film Festival .
